Mfengu

Wikipedia: Mfengu

Mfengu are an African ethnic group of South Africa who were forced off their land in 1877 and 1878.

The word "Mfengu" means "foreigners" as their ancestors moved to the Eastern Cape as one of many Nguni groups fleeing Shaka Zulu.

They are one of the population groups which speak Xhosa but don't consider themselves as Xhosa.

They are known for farming and for assisting the British during the Frontier Wars.
