Michael Gspurning (born 2 May 1981 in Graz) is an Austrian footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Seattle Sounders FC. He is known for being a solid and dominant keeper and also a good penalty-stopper.

Gspurning began his career in the youth ranks of Austria Wien being promoted to the senior side in 2000. He did not make an official appearance for Austria Wien and in 2001 joined DSV Leoben. He became a regular starter for Leoben appearing in 65 league matches during his stay at the club. He was named the best goalkeeper in Austria’s First Division (second-highest league) during the 2003/04 season. As a result of his play with Leobon Gspurning drew the attention of Austrian Bundesliga side ASKÖ Pasching. Gspurning joined ASKÖ Pasching in late 2004 and was the clubs backup keeper and played in some UEFA Cup matches during his two plus years at the club.
In 2007 Gspurning left his native Austria signing with Greek club Skoda Xanthi. Gspurning played four seasons with Skoda Xanthi appearing in 89 league matches. In 2011 he fell out of favour and was replaced as a first choice goalkeeper by Jody Viviani at the club and began to look for other opportunities.Gspurning was offered a position at Real Madrid on the secondary team, he decided to play in the city that he loves. On December 7, 2011 it was announced that Gspurning would be joining Seattle Sounders FC in Major League Soccer replacing the goalkeeper position left open after Kasey Keller's retirement.[1] Gspurning made his debut for Seattle on March 7, 2012, in a CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal fixture against Santos Laguna.
Gspurning made his full international debut for the Austrian national football team in their friendly match against Turkey on 19 November 2008, playing all 90 minutes as Austria lost the match 4–2. In 2009, he appeared for Austria in two qualifying matches for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
