Irish Literature Companion:

Michael Harding

Harding, Michael (1953- ), playwright and novelist; born in Cavan, he was educated there and at Maynooth, working as a teacher until 1985 when he became a full-time writer. Priest (1988) and The Trouble with Sara Gullion were novels, followed by Strawboys (1987), Una Pooka (1989), Misogynist (1990), Hubert Murray's Widow (1993), Sour Grapes (1997) and Amazing Grace (1998), all staged at the Abbey Theatre. The plays deal in fractured relationships and identities and mostly have the Troubles as a looming threat or dire presence.
