Michael Scully (born in Valdosta, Georgia in 1965) is an American journalist and educator currently working as an assistant professor in the Communications Department at Roger Williams University in Bristol, RI. Scully is teaching journalism with an emphasis on Digital Journalism. He joined the staff at RWU in Fall 2007. [1]
In January 2009, Scully worked with RWU Assistant Vice President Judi Johnson and nine Communications majors to produce a series of videos on sustainability for a PBS special entitled Planet Forward.[2] The RWU Planet Forward team produced a total of 18 videos, 12 of these appeared on the Planet Forward website, and a smaller group appeared on the PBS program, which aired on April 15, 2009.[3][4]
Prior to Roger Williams University, Scully was part of the teaching faculty at the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College. He also taught briefly at SUNY New Paltz. [1]
Scully's professional experience includes 17 years of news writing, editing and reporting experience. He was a staff writer with Fortune Small Business magazine, a copy editor with CNN, business editor with The Fairfax Journal, technology reporter with Washington Technology, a web editor with New Century Networks and a staff writer with several other publications. [1]
His writing credits also include bylines with The Times Herald-Record in Middletown, NY.
Scully earned a masters degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in 1997.
He currently lives in Middletown, RI. [5]
