Biography

The Canadian jazzman Michel Dubeau is a multi-instrumentalist. Among Western instruments, he plays the saxophone, the flute, and the bass clarinet. Among non-Western ones, he plays the American Indian flute, the South American quena, the Arab ney, and many other instruments, but especially the Japanese Shinobue and Shakuhachi, this last one being his preferred instrument. Among jazzmen using non-Western instruments, Michel Dubeau is probably one of the rare to play so many different instruments, as well as integrating in his music sounds from Indian, Balinese, Asian, North and South American instruments. He regularly plays in soundtracks for films, television series, documentaries, IMAX films, plays, and others. ~ Bruno DeschĂȘnes, All Music Guide
