Early life
As a child, Michelle and her younger sister Catherine, were neglected by their parents. Their father, Charles VI, was suffering bouts of insanity and their mother was more occupied with her lover, the Duke of Orleans.
The children were left in the Hotel of St.Pol with hardly any food or change of clothing. After a bout of insanity,Charles VI came to his senses. However, their mother and Louis of Valois, Duke of Orleans, kidnapped them and the children of John the Fearless. The children were seized by the Duke's forces.
Marriage
In June 1409, she married Philip III, Duke of Burgundy. Michelle became melancholic in 1419, following her brother's involvement in the murder of her father-in-law, John the Fearless.
Death & Burial
Michelle fell ill and died in Ghent in 1422 while her husband was away preparing for the battle of Cone. All of the inhabitants were in grieving as she was much loved by the people. Michelle was interred in the monastery of St Bavon near Ghent.
Poisoning
After her death, it was believed her death had been brought on by poisoning by a lady attendant from Germany, Ourse de la Viefville. This lady had been a close confidante of the Princess, however had been dismissed to Aire just before Michelle's death. The lady was never charged.
Siblings
Michelle's younger brother Charles became King of France on the death of their father. Two of Michelle's sisters Isabella and Catherine became Queen consort of England. Isabella married Richard II of England when she was only seven but had no children to him and then was married to Charles, Duke of Orléans. Catherine married as her first husband Henry V of England and had a son, Henry VI of England; she married secondly Owen Tudor, by whom she had issue including Edmund Tudor father of King Henry VII of England, founder of the Royal House of Tudor. A third and fourth sister, Jeanne married John VI, Duke of Brittany, and was the mother of seven children, and Marie, Prioress of Poissy. Michelle had two other brothers, Louis and John who were both Dauphin of France. Neither of them became King of France since they both died before their father did, which meant Charles became King.
Ancestry
Michelle had borne a daughter, Agnes but she died in infancy.
