Roots & Influences
Flight simulation programs have existed since the first home computers came onto the market. Microsoft developed excellent levels of its Flight Simulator program, up to this version specially designed for Windows 95.

Review: Overall
Most gamers have tried at least one flight simulation program in their time, to learn how to fly, hone their skills, or just to experiment and experience what it's like to crash a plane first-hand. Microsoft Flight Simulator '95 is the ultimate simulated flying experience for the home computer. Written specifically for Windows 95 (and hence avoiding the "not enough conventional memory free" error message), it releases both the novice and the experienced aviator alike from the bonds of gravity.
The lessons available are comprehensive and enjoyable and the aircraft available are a delight to fly. There's the choice of the Sopwith Camel (sadly, without the front-mounted machine guns), the Schweizer 2-32 Sailplane, the trusty first-time-flier's Cessna Skylane RGR 182, the stunt pilot's Extra 300S, the extravagant LearJet 35A and, new in this edition, the famous Boeing 737-400. The sim also comes with a wide range of scenarios, such as an aircraft carrier flyby, an abortive final approach, and even the challenge of avoiding a hot air balloon!
What really makes this game stand out from those that came before it are its graphics, especially the scenery. Gone are the blocky pixels of the early 1990s. This version of Microsoft's Flight Simulator comes with a delicious choice of locations to fly in and around, all in stunningly realistic detail. After the starting location of Meigs Field in Chicago, there are jaunts over New York City, London, Las Vegas, Munich, San Francisco, Oakland, Paris (ever buzzed the Eiffel Tower? Try it here!) and various other locations world wide, all displayed through impressive photo-realistic scenery.
