Accessory Description

The Microsoft IntelliMouse uses an optical laser to determine movement across a flat surface, instead of relying on the mechanics of the ball-and-roller design used by most older models. This prevents build-up of dust and dirt inside the mouse, adding to the unit's accuracy and longevity. Another benefit of the laser mouse is that there is no need for a special mouse pad. The device will work on any smooth, clean surface. The device glides on four small, thin pads that offer little frictional resistance and are easily wiped clean when necessary. The IntelliMouse is a larger than the average mouse and features four buttons plus a clickable scroll wheel. In addition to the two standard {!PC} mouse buttons and the wheel on top, two more buttons are placed on the left side of the unit, designed to be accessed with the thumb. While each of the device's buttons can be programmed using the included software, the addition of these two "extra" side buttons allows the user to better customize the device for a given purpose, be it word processing, web browsing, or gaming. A small red light in the front of the unit glows when the device is active. When the mouse is lifted from the table surface the laser light automatically shuts off, though this indicator light continues to glow as long as the mouse is connected and the computer system is running. The Microsoft IntelliMouse can be plugged into a USB port or the included adaptor will allow it to be used in a conventional {!PC} mouse port.
