Microtune wants to be your cable (chip) company. As it returns to its origins as a maker of cable tuner chips, the company divested its wireless communication chip business. Microtune's chips enable broadband voice, data, and video communications in electronic gear such as car radios, cable modems and set-top boxes, digital TVs, DVRs, and PCs. Microtune expanded into the wireless area with its purchase of Transilica, but later exited the business. Microtune's customers include Cisco Systems (29% of sales), Unihan (a subsidiary of ASUSTeK Computer that assembles products for ARRIS Group, 13%), Panasonic (12%), Motorola, and Samsung Electronics. The company gets about two-thirds of its sales outside North America.
