Taylor made 316 tackles in three years playing for Bo Schembechler's teams, including 132 tackles in 1971. He was a unanimous All-American selection in 1971. The University of Michigan's Bentley Historical Library says of Taylor: "Extremely effective against running plays and still made several interceptions from middle linebacking position. Considered one of Michigan's finest linebackers."
