Mikva'ot

("Ritual Baths"). Sixth tractate of Order Tohorot in the Mishnah. Its ten chapters deal with the laws of building a ritual bath (Mikveh) and of immersion (Lev. 11:36, 15:16). Included are the dimensions of a ritual bath, proper immersion, causes for disqualification of a mikveh, the use of springs, rivers, and seas as ritual baths, and the utensils that require immersion in a mikveh. According to Jewish law, contact with all forms of impurity, from the most severe to the mildest, requires immersion. The subject is amplified in the Tosefta.

Tractate Mikva'ot (Hebrew: מקואות, lit. "pools of water") is a section of the Mishna discussing the laws pertaining to the building and maintenance of a mikvah, a Jewish ritual bath. Like most of Seder Tohorot, Mikva'ot is present only in its mishnaic form and has no accompanying gemara in either the Babylonian or Jerusalem Talmud.
