Biography

As leader of the Stourbridge, England band the Wonderstuff, Miles Hunt was able to not only enjoy chart success, but he was able to do it with one hell of a sneer on his face. By 1994, however, the Wonderstuff were no more, breaking up after that summer's Phoenix Festival. Hunt returned in 1995, fronting the short-lived Vent 414. After one album, Vent 414 was no more, and Hunt found himself on his own once again. The year 1998 saw him reuniting with former Wonderstuff member Malcolm Treece, during which time the acoustic duo toured the U.S. and U.K. In March of 1999, his solo debut, Hairy on the Inside, was released on Gig Records. The album marked a return to the former collaboration with Treece, as well as Wonderstuff fiddler Martin Bell. In early 2000, Hunt once again embarked on a U.S. tour and prepared to release his second full length. 5 Songs followed later that winter. ~ Chris True, All Music Guide

Early life

Miles Hunt, casual, 2008

His father was a union official for the TGWU. In the 1970s, his father was based at Derby, and they lived in Etwall for four years, with Hunt attending the Etwall Junior School and his brother attending the John Port School.[1] Hunt now lives in Marston Green, Solihull, West Midlands

Hunt married the late-night/early-morning BBC Radio 1 DJ Mary Anne Hobbs in April 1990, in the London borough of Tower Hamlets. She was working for the NME at the time. They were married for five years.

Career

Hunt's first band (in which he played drums) was called From Eden, and featured future members of another successful Stourbridge group, Pop Will Eat Itself. After leaving this band he formed The Wonder Stuff and was their lead singer and principal songwriter until their split in 1994. He briefly presented 120 Minutes on MTV until 1996, when he formed a new band Vent 414 who failed to match the success of his former band. He toured as a solo performer for a time until he reformed The Wonder Stuff in 2000. They are still together to this day, and are facing something of a career relaunch, having appeared on many summer festival bills in 2006. He also co-wrote and sang the theme tune to the CBeebies television programme Underground Ernie.[2]

Over the last few years he has written a series of printed and online articles for Nottingham-based culture magazine LeftLion.
