Plot

The "Dutch" comedy team of Clarence Kolb and Max Dill made their second starring screen appearance in Mutual's A Million For Mary. The comedians were cast respectively as a sidewalk sandwich-board man named Louie, and a hot-dog vendor named Mike. Upon entering a drug store to acquire some dog medicine, Louie and Mike discover that the pharmacist has been targeted for arrest by the Pure Food and Drug Administration. Before losing his life in a shoot-out, the druggist asks our two heroes to look after his daughter Mary (played as a child by Dodo Newton, and as an adult by May Cloy). As can be expected, the rest of the picture is a mixture of blubbery sentiment and knockabout comedy. After Kolb and Dill called it quits in the 1930s, Clarence Kolb continued alone as a top character actor; he is best remembered to baby-boomers as the dyspeptic Mr. Honeywell on the TV sitcom My Little Margie. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
