Million to Burn

Plot

Fading Universal star Herbert Rawlinson, whose acting ability was never one of his strong points, shows a surprising flair for comedy in this lighthearted farce. He also has help from ex-wrestler and Mack Sennett alumnus Kalla Pasha. Rawlinson is Thomas Gwynne, a college graduate who goes to work as a waiter in a mountain hotel. Because of an unexpected set of circumstances, he is suddenly promoted to manager and tries to put the philosophies he learned at the university to use by turning the hotel into a Utopia-like environment. All the employees encouraged to express their creative urges freely, and, predictably, the hotel winds up bankrupt. Then Gwynne inherits a million dollars, so he buys the hotel and takes another stab at running it. This, too, is a failure, and the unappreciative employees approach him with a load of ridiculous demands. Gwynne finally resorts to his fists to put everything in order and soon the hotel is running smoothly. Leading lady Beatrice Burnham is all but lost in the foolery. ~ Janiss Garza, Rovi
