Biography

American producer and screenwriter Milton Subotsky began his career as a writer/producer during the early days of television when shows were produced live. Prior to that, he had served in the Signal Corps during WWII. He co-produced and wrote nine songs for his first feature film, Rock, Rock, Rock!, in 1956. He and his partner, J. Rosenberg, then made another rock film and a prison movie before Subotsky moved to England in 1960. There he began producing horror movies. In 1964, he and Rosenberg founded Amicus Productions and made more horror/fantasy/sci-fi films, the first of which was Dr. Terror's House of Horrors. These films typically starred Vincent Price, Christopher Lee, and Peter Cushing. Amicus fell apart ten years later, but Subotsky kept on trying to develop more dark fantasies, many of which never made it to the screen. In 1980, he did successfully co-produce a TV miniseries based on Ray Bradbury's classic The Martian Chronicles. He has also worked closely with author Stephen King. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
