Ministry of Labour
The Ministry of Labour was a British civil service department established in the early 20th century. The politician in charge was usually designated Minister of Labour. It was renamed several times during the late 20th century - for example Department for Employment. Its functions are currently (2007) exercised by the Department of Work and Pensions.
It was responsible for the operation of labour exchanges - renamed employment exchanges and subsequently job centres.
