Miramax is one of Hollywood's most successful film studios. Created in 1979 by brothers Bob and Harvey Weinstein, the studio is named for their parents, Miriam and Max. The Weinsteins built the studio up from early winners like sex, lies, and videotape, My Left Foot, and Cinema Paradiso, to Oscar winners The English Patient, Shakespeare in Love, and Chicago.
In 1993, Miramax was bought by the Walt Disney Co., but continued to enjoy nearly complete autonomy. In 1994, Pulp Fiction was released by Miramax, bringing it further fame. Other hit movies produced by Miramax include Cold Mountain, Kill Bill, Spy Kids, Frida, and The Station Agent.
