mismatch repair

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Email

a system for the correction of errors introduced during DNA replication when an incorrect base, which cannot form hydrogen bonds with the corresponding base in the parent strand, is incorporated into the daughter strand. Excinucleases recognize a pair of non-hydrogen-bonded bases and cause a segment of polynucleotide chain to be excised from the (less methylated) daughter strand, thereby removing the mismatched base. The resulting gap is then filled by the actions of DNA polymerase I and DNA ligase.

Previous:miscible, mischarge, misacylate
