Miss Dulcie from Dixie

Plot

Because of a stipulation in a will, Southern girl Dulcie (Gladys Leslie) must go to New York and live with her Uncle John (Arthur Donaldson) for six months so she can inherit five thousand dollars. She expects this to be rough, since the two sides of the family have been feuding since the Civil War. But Dulcie finds her uncle an easy-going sort -- it's Orrin, his son from a previous marriage (James Morrison), who treats her with disdain. Although she is determined to make him like her, Uncle John's sister (Julia Swayne Gordon) is just as determined to keep them apart. She wants Orrin to wed a rich girl, and she plans to marry Dulcie off to the middle-aged Lockhardt. When it's clear that Orrin is falling in love with Dulcie, she orders the girl from the house, but is stopped by Uncle John. At this point, the sister undergoes a major change of attitude towards Dulcie, and begins to throw Dulcie and Orrin together. Dulcie discovers she has become heir to a fortune, and realizes this is the reason for her aunt's behavior. Thinking that Orrin is in on this, she sadly returns to the South. But an old servant who knows Dulcie's story brings Orrin to visit and the couple settle their differences. ~ Janiss Garza, Rovi
