Review

Miss Mondo is Ligabue's sixth album, released four years after his big commercial breakthrough with Buon Compleanno Elvis -- almost the same amount of time it took him to make his first five records. Dealing with the consequences of success may not have come easy for Ligabue, who in this album switches from his trademark character stories to more personal statements, often expressing a growing disappointment and frustration. "Si Viene e Si Va," "Almeno Credo," and "Miss Mondo" stand out among the album's many fine moments, with special honors going to the autobiographical hit single "Una Vita da Mediano" and the angst-ridden "L'Odore del Sesso." Some tracks feature string arrangements recorded at Abbey Road by the London Session Orchestra, conducted by Piero Milesi. His most lyrically and musically ambitious work to date, Miss Mondo is the first Ligabue album entirely produced by the songwriter himself. ~ Mariano Prunes, Rovi
