Biography

Canadian actress Missy Peregrym (born Melissa Peregrym in Surrey, British Columbia) specialized in slightly edgy and gritty television outings during her early years on-camera. She debuted at 20 years old, under the aegis of producer James Cameron, with a guest appearance on that director's white-hot action series Dark Angel (playing a character named Hottie Blood). Peregrym then essayed a role in the short-lived weekly martial arts actioner Black Sash (in 2003, as a young woman hell-bent on unbridled vengeance). In 2004, she appeared on the cult superhero series Smallville as Molly Griggs, aka Brainwave (a role she revisted in 2006 for a series of webisodes called "The Vengeance Chronicles"). Later in 2004, Peregrym took on a regular role on the teen drama Life As We Know It as the soccer-playing Jackie Bradford, but the show failed to gain a significant audience, and was canceled after less than half a season.

Peregrym's next project, however, proved to be her highest-profile to that date; she took on the lead in the inspirational sports drama Stick It (2006) -- playing a rebellious 17-year-old gymnast who achieves her full potential thanks to the tutelage of a die-hard, no-nonsense coach (Jeff Bridges). Not long after that, Peregrym was cast as a recurring character on the massively popular superhero series Heroes, playing the deceptive Candice Wilmer, who could make people around her see whatever version of reality she chose. In fall 2007, the actress captured another regular role on a supernatural-themed series, the comedy drama Reaper, about a slacker who, on his 21st birthday, finds out that his parents sold his soul to the devil, whom he must now work for. Peregrym played his charming girl-next-door love interest, Andi. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

Personal life

Peregrym was born in Montreal, Quebec, to a minister and a homemaker. Peregrym has lived most of her life in Surrey, British Columbia where she attended Fleetwood Park Secondary School.[citation needed] She describes herself as having been a "tomboy" while growing up,[1] and she babysat the neighbor kids and was heavily involved in high school athletics including Soccer, Field Hockey, Snowboarding, Basketball and outdoor sports on the local Vancouver mountains. She dated Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger while living in the U.S. She previously lived in Los Angeles, but moved to Toronto for filming the police drama Rookie Blue[citation needed].

Career

Peregrym began modeling at the age of eighteen with Lizbell Agency, she has appeared in commercials for Mercedes-Benz, Sprint Canada, and the Olympics. She made her acting debut in a 2000 episode of the television series Dark Angel, and spent the next several years appearing in television roles, including episodes of The Chris Isaak Show, Black Sash, Jake 2.0, Smallville, Tru Calling, Life as We Know It, Andromeda, Heroes, and in the made-for-television film Call Me: the Rise and Fall of Heidi Fleiss.

After an uncredited role in 2004's Catwoman, Peregrym made her film debut playing the lead role in 2006's Stick It, which is a film about a rebellious teenager who is forced to return to her former life in gymnastics but ends up liking her old life and continues to live it.

Peregrym portrayed illusion-generating Candice Wilmer on the television series Heroes. Billed in promotional materials as "a female temptress" set to appear in the episode titled Parasite, she actually debuted in a non-speaking role the prior week. She was cast in The CW's television series Reaper as the female lead, in the role that was originally intended to be played by Nikki Reed, according to the Hollywood Reporter[citation needed]. Reaper was about a young man named Sam who became a bounty hunter for the devil. Missy played the role of Sam's love interest, Andi.[2]

Peregrym currently stars in the lead role of Officer Andy McNally in the hit police drama Rookie Blue, which airs simultaneously in North America on Global TV in Canada and on ABC in the U.S. Because of wintry weather logistics, filming must begin roughly one year in advance of airing, so the premiere season, set to debut in June 2010, began filming in August 2009. Ratings for the drama were so solid for ABC that it renewed the show for a second season after only three episodes[citation needed].

ABC has announced after only a few episodes that it was picking up Rookie Blue for a third season to air in the summer of 2012. [3]

Charity

Peregrym took part in the TOMS shoe drop in Argentina in 2006.

In 2008 she was nominated for a Leo at the Leo Awards for Best Lead Performance by a Female in the Dramatic Series Reaper episode "Love, Bullets, and Blacktop".
