American architectural firm founded (1958) by Rome-born Romaldo Giurgola (1920– ), and Pennsylvania-born Ehrman Burkman Mitchell (1924– ). Their work has been consistently admired for its sense of continuity and freedom from stylistic quotation, influenced mostly by the work of Kahn. Among their buildings are the Volvo Headquarters, Göteborg, Sweden (1984), the Parliament House of Australia, Canberra (1988), and the IBM Offices, Darling Park, Sydney, Australia (1993).
