Mizzima News (Burmese: မဇ္ဈိမသတင်း) is a Burmese news organization. It was established in August 1998 by a group of Burmese journalists in exile. The International Press Institute awarded Mizzima News its Free Media Pioneer award in 2007[1].

Organization
Mizzima maintains a head office in Delhi, India and a news bureau in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Mizzima has over 30 employees reporting from five countries: Bangladesh, Burma, China, India and Thailand.
Mission
Its stated purpose is to raise awareness about Burma. It aims to promote "democracy and freedom of expression in Burma, by improving the flow of information in and out of the country and through advocacy and lobbying".[2]
Assessments
According to the BBC News 24 website, The New Delhi-based Burmese news agency, Mizzima News, has been giving mainly factual accounts of the protests in several cities around the country.[3] The Voice of America site states[4]:
