Plot

In 1945, when most of the best-known baseball players were still not back from military service, Chicago sportswriter Warren Brown reflected on the scarcity of stars on both World Series teams and said, "I don't think either of them can win." Despite this wry prediction, the Detroit Tigers and the Chicago Cubs surprised and pleased their fans by playing an exciting series that lasted seven games. Footage from the games brings back the feeling of this special series, with strong performances by Detroit's Hank Greenberg, Hal Newhouser, and Virgil Trucks, as well as Chicago's Stan Hack, Peanuts Lowrey, and Phil Cavarretta. ~ Alice Duncan, All Movie Guide
