Modern Art and Modernism: Futurism, Modernity and Style

  • Genre: Visual Arts
  • Movie Type: Art History, Graphic & Applied Arts
  • Director: Robert Philip
  • Country: US
  • Run Time: 24 minutes

Plot

In the early part of the 20th century, a new movement arose in Italy. This new faction, known as futurism, also appeared in Russia a bit later, and was a rebellion against what proponents considered the "static" nature of art that came before. The futurists embraced technology, beginning with the popularization of the automobile, and their views are discussed in Modern Art and Modernism: Manet to Pollock: Futurism, Modernity and Style. Speed and motion were qualities the futurists sought to convey in their art, and works of Russolo, Boccioni, Larionov, and Goncharova are explored. ~ Alice Day, All Movie Guide
