Dwelling units constructed from components prefabricated in a factory and erected on the site. See also Mobile Home.

A factory-built home that complies with local building codes. Contrast with Manufactured Home, Hud-Code Home.
Example: Most factory-built housing complies with a national set of standards enforced by HUD. Modular housing, however, is constructed to comply with the local building code of the city in which it will be sited.
