Mokś—its feminine Sanskrit form is mukti—is the Hindu (see Hinduism) term for the much-desired release from the endless cycle of transmigration or rebirth called saṃsāra (see Saṃsāra, Karman). Mokś is central to Brahmānic (see Brahmanism) Hindu thought as well as to Buddhism (see Buddhism) and Jainism (see Jainism).
