chemistry SI The amount of a substance in moles per kilogram of solvent. Molality corresponds with but varies from the milliequivalent. For univalent ions (e.g. Na-, K-, Cl+, CO3+) the two are identical; however, for others they differ by the valency, e.g. for divalent ions (e.g. Ca--, SO4++) the molality is half the mEq/L. Compare molarity.
