Review

Pure, unpretentious fun from Jerry Goldsmith, Mom and Dad Save the World captures the composer at his most off-the-wall -- a series of disjointed and tongue-in-cheek sci-fi cues that mock the genre with sincere affection, its sheer eclecticism deserves kudos, reaffirming the composer as a jack of all trades and a master of most. Goldsmith doesn't write music here so much as he throws ideas against the wall -- aggressive action themes, orchestral fanfares and jazzy piano solos come together in a slapstick collision of sound, and even if the themes are too brief and too unfocused to linger in the memory, the sheer audacity of the approach is undeniably impressive. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi
