Jean-Pierre Bernes is a college professor who for ten years enjoyed a close friendship with one of the great literary figures of the Twentieth Century, the Argentinean author, critic and essayist Jorge Luis Borges. Between 1976 and Borges' death in 1986, Bernes was a confidante to the writer and was a witness to the creation of some of his final works. Documentary filmmaker Jasmin Gordon offers a profile of Bernes in the short documentary Monsieur Borges and I, in which he shares his memories of life with Borges and his wife and explores the intricate relationship between a creative genius and a learned fan. Monsieur Borges and I was screened in competition at the 2007 Slamdance Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
