Monsieur Oh La La

Album Review: Monsieur Oh La La

Review

Rodriguez lives in Paris these days, which explains the title and some French badinage along the way. But he recorded this album in New York. The basic format is charanga, and any charanga with Art Webb on lead flute and Eddie Drennon/Lewis Kahn on lead fiddle has to be a winner. But Rodriguez doesn't let the charanga formula get in the way of bringing sax-heavy Mario Rivera on board. And he himself is a fine pianist. ~ John Storm Roberts, Original Music, All Music Guide
