(chemical engineering) An arbitrary unit used to measure the plasticity of raw, or unvulcanized rubber; the plasticity in Mooney units is equal to the torque, measured on an arbitrary scale, on a disk in a vessel that contains rubber at a temperature of 100°C and rotates at two revolutions per minute.

[Etymology: M. Mooney; USA] engineering For rubber, a measure of plasticity, being the torque registered by a disc in raw rubber at 100°C within a cylinder rotating at 2 r.p.m., the result being read on an arbitrary scale, and expressed relative to the number of minutes of operation.
