Moontrap was a 1989 science fiction film from Magic Films. The film was written by Tex Ragsdale and directed by Robert Dyke. The cast featured Walter Koenig as Col. Jason Grant, Bruce Campbell as Ray Tanner, and Leigh Lombardi as Mera.

A sequel to the movie was planned, but never created.

Plot

Flying the Space Shuttle Camelot on a satellite repair mission, its crew discovers an alien spaceship. The mission commander, Col. Jason Grant (Walter Koenig), leaves the shuttle to investigate, and discovers a reddish-brown pod and a mummified human corpse. Both the pod and its contents are brought back to Earth and, following investigation, it is found that they originated on the Moon some 14,000 years ago. Shortly thereafter, the pod comes to life and builds itself into a killer cyborg with parts from the lab and pieces of the corpse.

Using the last complete Apollo spacecraft, Grant and fellow astronaut Tanner (Bruce Campbell) return to the Moon. They discover the ruins of an ancient human civilization and sentient machines called the "Kalium," which have a programmed imperative to conquer Earth. Grant and Tanner gain the help of Mera, a woman left in suspended animation to warn anyone who came to the Moon about the Kalium. The Kalium use the parts of the Apollo Lunar Module to repair their own craft and conquer Earth, but Grant and Mera plant a bomb and destroy the Kalium craft before the humans escape.
