Formerly known simply as Acumen, Acumen Nation have toned down the unchanneled rage characteristic of most industrial metal bands in favor of solid hooks and dance-friendly grooves. The staggered rhythm of "Unkind" makes way for the vulnerable musings of "The Funny Thing Is..." on a record that is, for all its multifaceted range, infused from beginning to end with infectious energy. More than anything, Acumen Nation sound like a great '80s metal band who have adapted their sound to the modern era, managing to make the transition with perfect grace and ease.
