Review
Ann Arbor punks the Teeth bring the ruckus on their debut, More Songs About Money and Animals. Whether channeling the muscianship, detail and passion of the Minutemen or the energy and primal power of Wrangler Brutes, the Teeth are always on point. Throughout More Songs About Money and Animals tracks groove and stutter -- drummer Andrew Tholl and bassist Chris Riggs play off of each other, rolling along with complex time signatures that switch when you least expect it, while guitarist Pete Soppelsa provides crushing guitar licks that would make Greg Ginn's ears perk up. Dave Reminick accentuates all of the tunes with smart, witty lyrics and passionate yells. Most tracks on the record are based on events in the news ("Cats Are Tigers," "Ape at the Bus Stop," "Self-Defense Decapitation," etc.), while others are just plain silly and fun ("SUVD," "Urine Continent," "Why Are You Hitting Yourself?"). Recorded in a basement, the production is crisp and captures the energy of the band as seen when performing live. More Songs About Money and Animals by the Teeth is the best record of 2004 that you should have heard. Highly recommended. ~ David Serra, All Music GuideTracks
