Review

The back cover of Sloppy Seconds' More Trouble Than They're Worth has a drawing of a very happy, bug-eyed monster feeding glue to an equally thrilled dog, which pretty much sums up the band's demented, adolescent humor and actually less-than-stupid idiot rock. More often than not, these junk-culture-worshipping couch potatoes come up with hearty guffaw-inducing songs like "Why Don't Lesbians Love Me?" and "Forced to Suck," which is about how they're dying to sell out, but not finding any takers, while "The Last Drive-In in Town" is a sad lament with lyrics like "They're gonna build a strip mall on the grounds/And I just gotta say I've never found/A yogurt stand or health supply or tan salon/That justifies them killin' off the last drive-in in town." Diehard Ramones fans, Sloppy Seconds write songs that are actually a bit more lyrically complicated than the Ramones, but are from the same loser, pseudo-half-wit perspective. More Trouble Than They're Worth is a bit of a comeback for Sloppy Seconds and is really more clever than stupid. ~ Adam Bregman, All Music Guide
