Biography

Morgana Lefay is one of the few bands in the '90s to carry on the thrash tradition that had been abandoned by most of its innovators. They first made their mark in 1990 with the independently released Symphony of the Damned. Featuring vocalist Charles Rytkonen, guitarists Tony Eriksson and Tommi Karppanen, drummer Jonas Sonderlind, and bassist Joakim Lundberg, the release was enough to get them into the underground metal touring circuit, which gave them enough exposure to catch the attention of the Black Mark label. They released several more albums throughout the '90s, eventually dropping Karppanen and Lundberg for Daniel Persson and Joakim Heder respectively, but legal issues with their label disheartened the band enough to disband in 1996. In 1999, the band came back as Lefay and performed for another two years before they broke up again. ~ Bradley Torreano, All Music Guide

Morgana Lefay (known as "Damage" from 1986 until 1989) is a power/thrash metal band from the town Bollnäs in Sweden. Sounding like a mixture of bands such as Savatage, Pantera and Iron Maiden with the crunch of early Metallica albums. It is named after Morgan Le Fay of the Arthurian cycle.

In 1997, Morgana Lefay split up. Persson, Heder and Söderlind kept the name, but changed style completely. In 1999, a self-titled album was made with Thomas Persson on guitar, featuring traditional hard rock sound. This album is not recognized as a "real" Morgana Lefay album by the present incarnation of band.

Meantime, Rytkönen and Eriksson were joined by members from Fantasmagoria, and continued under the name Lefay, changing record label to Noise Records. After releasing three albums, they got back the name Morgana Lefay when they returned to Black Mark Records. The albums "The Seventh Seal", "Symphony Of The Damned, re-symphonised" and "S.O.S" was made when the band was called Lefay.

In beginning of May, 2006 drummer Robin Engström surprisingly quit the band because of "personal differences." Later that month, a Pelle Åkerlind became the new permanent drummer.

In late August 2006 the band went into Studio Soundcreation to record a new album (titled "Aberrations Of The Mind"), it was released on March 19th, 2007. It was the first album with Åkerlind on drums.

Since autumn 2007 it has been complete silence from the band, not because of any split-up or that the band is "dead" as some has claimed. The band is "on hold", they're taking a break for the moment and there's no direct plans for any activity.
