Review

One of Hartford's finest records. Done mostly live in the studio with virtually no over-dubs, this is a fine collection of song covering a variety of subjects. Two of the most poignant are "Howard Hughes Blues" and "Nobody Eats at Linebaugh's," which addresses country music's abandonment of the Ryman and downtown Nashville in favor of "the park." ~ Jim Worbois, All Music Guide

Morning Bugle is John Hartford's excellent 1972 follow-up to the groundbreaking Aereo-Plain album. The music was all written by Hartford except for two traditional tunes, and was recorded live in the studio with no over-dubbing. Norman Blake was back to play acoustic guitar on this one, plus Dave Holland plays bass.
