Motor Transport Corps

The British Motor Transport Corps existed during World War II as a volunteer unit for women. Women who wanted to help in the war effort could volunteer to drive foreign dignitaries around London, as the foreigners and their American drivers were hapless on the British streets. The "MTC" also served as ambulance drivers, picking up injured and dead bodies after Germany's raids on London. The most famous example of an MTC driver is Kay Summersby, who was enlisted to drive General Eisenhower around, and subsequently claimed to have had an affair with him.
