Biography

Another cog in Master P's No Limit Records machine, Mr. Serv-On went to high school with Master P (as well as most of the other members of No Limit) and signed to the label on the cusp of Master P's breakout into the mainstream. Around the time Master P's Ghetto D hit number one on the album charts, Serv-On's Life Insurance (using the No Limit production machine known as Beats by the Pound) reached number 23, in September 1997. War Is Me, Pt. 1: Battle Decisions followed three years later, and was his first release away from the No Limit imprint. Serv-On would continue to go through label strife before finally finding a home on D3 Entertainment and releasing No More Questions in early 2003. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide

Edward Smith, better known as Mr. Serv-On, is an American rapper who is best known for his time spent with No Limit Records in the mid to late 90s. A high school friend of Master P, Mr. Serv-On was one of the first rappers signed to No Limit. First appearing on albums by Master P, TRU and Mia X, Serv-On's debut album, Life Insurance was released on August 12, 1997. Life Insurance was met with commercial and critical success, peaking at #23 on the US charts and #5 on the R&B charts.[1] Two years later, Da Next Level was released to bigger commercial success, making it to #1 on the R&B charts.[1] Despite the success, Serv-On left No Limit Records later in 1999. His third album, War Is Me, Pt. 1: Battle Decisions, was released independently for Lifetime Entertainment and only made it to #75 on the R&B charts.[1] Mr. Serv-On continues to release albums independently.
