Mrs Bithia Mary Croker

Croker, Mrs B[ithia] M[ary] (née B. M. Shephard) (1850-1920), romantic novelist. Born in Co. Roscommon, she was educated in Cheshire before marrying an army officer. Her early novels, such as Proper Pride (1883) and Pretty Miss Neville (1883), depict Anglo-India. In The Kingdom of Kerry (1896) she surveys the down-at-the heel Anglo-Irish ascendancy.
