1. dilatation of a cavity with accumulated mucous secretion.
2. a mucous polyp.
- nasolacrimal m. — see dacryops.
- orbital m. — may be due to leakage from a salivary gland or lacrimal secretions. Causes exophthalmos and protrusion of the nictitating membrane.
- salivary m. — extravasation of saliva into subcutaneous tissue following injury to a salivary gland or duct. Most commonly seen in dogs as a fluctuant, sometimes large and pendulous, nonpainful mass in the intermandibular, cranial, cervical or sublingual area.
