Muhammad Ilyas al-Kandhlawi (Arabic: محمد الياس كاندهلوي) was the founder of the Islamic revivalist movement Tablighi Jamaat. Born in 1885 to a family of religious scholars, his early education was completed at home.
He was then sent to study at the famous centre of Islamic learning, Darul Uloom Deoband, where he studied under several famous Ulema. After completing his studies, he taught at various madrassas. In the late 1920s founded Tablighi Jamaat.
Maulana Muhammad Ilyas Khandalwi rahmatullahalai Maulana Muhammad Ilyas Khandalwi was born in Khandala in 1303 Hijri. His birth name was Ikhtar Ilyas. He was 15 years younger than his brother Maulana Muhammad Yahya sahib and 12 years older that Hazrat Shaykh - ul- Hadeeth sahib. He spent the first part of his childhood in Khandala and after that he was in the service of his father in Nizamudin – Delhi. His father Maulana Muhammad Ismaeel Sahib died in 1315 Hijri. He became a Hafiz at a very young age. His Mother Bibi Safiyyah became a Hafiza after marriage. She knew the Quran so well and prayed it so much that in Ramadan she would pray one Quran and 10 paras every day. In this way she would pray 40 Qurans every Ramadan. Maulana Muhammad Ilyas gained his early knowledge from Maulana Hakeem Muhammad Ibrahim and when he was in Nizamudin he learnt from his father. After that he went to where he learnt and was also in the service of Hazrat Gangohi. At this time he was only 10/11. Hazrat Gangohi died in Zul - Hijjah 1323. At this time Maulana Muhammad Ilyas was 20 years old. From this it can be seen that he was in the service of Gangohi for approximately 10 years. When he used to pray any Kitaab, he would do Mutalla in such a way that when the lesson was being taught it would be as if he had already done it before. Sometimes because his Mutalla was good, the teacher would tell him to teach the class. In this way he was a student as well as a teacher. In 1326 Hijri Maulana Muhammad Ilyas prayed Bukhari and Tirmidhi from Hazrat Shaykh - ul- Hind Maulana Muhammad - ul – Hasan Sahib. It took him only 4 months to do this. Then he taught in Mazahir – Uloom (for 8 years) Maulana Muhammad Ilyas got married on the 6th Zul – Hijjah 1330 to his uncle, Maulana Ra’uf - ul - Hasan Sahib Khandalwi’s daughter. At his wedding Maulana Khaleel Ahmed Saharanpur, Aa’la Shah Abdur – Rahman Sahib and Hazrat Thanwi were all present. In 1333 Hijri he did his first Hajj. The journey began in Shawwal and ended in Rabiu – Thani. His brother Maulana Muhammad Yahya Sahib died in 1334 Hijri. After this sadness in Rabiu – Thani 1336 his eldest brother died. Then in the same year in Shabaan his mother also died. To be continued... Please help

Revival in Islamic History
Maulana Ilyas has not received much attention in the literature on modern Islamic movements. The available literature on Maulana Ilyas and his Tablighi movement was mostly in Urdu. Now the modern western libraries have the translation of all books in English, German, Bangla, India , Persian, Chinese, French, Arabic and Dutch.
Tabligi Jamaat
Tabligi Jamaat is founded in the late 1920s in the Mewat province of India. He didn't assign any name to this movement because his point of view was that, it is the duty of each and every Muslim of the world to give dawah. He once said that if he had to attribute a name to his movement, it would have been "Tehreek-e-Iman" i.e Iman movement. The people of South Asia started calling the devotees Tableeghi.
