Muhr is a municipality in the Austrian state of Salzburg, part of the Tamsweg District (Lungau). It is located at the source of the river Mur, separating the Hohe Tauern and the Niedere Tauern ranges of the Central Eastern Alps. The municipal area comprises the Katastralgemeinden of Vordermuhr, Hintermuhr, and Schellgaden.
The name's origin is the Latin word murus (English: "wall").[citation needed] Muhr once was a mining region for gold and arsenic. It is also known for its Samson parades.
