Review

Another particularly strong release by one of Angola's biggest names. Eduardo Paim delivers consistently enjoyable albums, although some of the rhythmic configurations on a few cuts are somewhat repetitious. Semba, Zouk and Latin influences weave a polyrhythmic texture that is hard to stay still to. The percussion and brass work are tight, as are the arrangements. After a couple of intro tracks, things kick in on "Boazuda, E." To bolster an already stellar lineup, Paulo Flores provides accompanying vocals on "Mujimbus" and " "M. Sto Antonio." "Altos e Quedas" puts out the steam with a deceptive simplicity. The artist knows how to work a groove yet keeps it very simple in its variations. "Aiwe Vizinha" is a remake of "Minha Vizinha" off the previous Foi Aqui. "Kizola" is another relentless dance track that pumps out a deep groove. Throughout the album, the basslines are fat and full with hand percussion all over the beat. "Creame" is a fine mid-tempo salsa that contrasts nicely with the preceding tracks. Paim's vocals are strong and earthy and he authors all his work here. It's all danceable and exudes a tropical sexiness that doesn't quit. This is another Angolan artist who should be more renowned other than in Angola, Lisbon and the Lusafrican communities in the U.S. ~ Mark Romano, All Music Guide
