multi-poundage system

Food and Fitness: multi-poundage system

A type of weight training in which an exercise is performed in sets, with the weights being reduced in each set. Typically, for the first set the weight-trainee performs as many repetitions as possible using the 10 RM (the maximum load that can be lifted for 10 repetitions). In the second set, a weight (usually 5 kg) is removed from the bar and, after a rest, the weight-trainee again attempts as many repetitions as possible. The procedure is repeated for each set, removing the same weight each time.
