Nanubhai Desai directs this romantic thriller about the bored and corrupt among Bombay's bourgeoisie. Elderly Ratanalal (Mohanlala) is fantastically wealthy yet without an heir. He marries the beautiful and English-educated Mohini. Ratanalal's two most trusted advisers are the thoughtful and loyal Dhairyadhar, and the modern thinking, morally corrupt Manhar. Mohini quickly tires of the wedding and sets about, with Manhar's help, to embezzle stacks of money from Ratanalal's office. When the crime is discovered, Manhar and Mohini pin the crime on the dutiful Dhairyadhar, who is promptly thrown in jail. Soon Mohini and Manhar slide into an illicit affair and plot to get rid of the old man, but Ratanalal eventually catches on and the criminal lovers are killed. ~ Jonathan Crow, Rovi
