Service

The 12951/12952 Mumbai Rajdhani Express is the fastest train on the Mumbai - Delhi sector and the fastest Rajdhani train as well as the second fastest in India

It is a daily service. It operates as train number 12951 from Mumbai Central to New Delhi Railway Station and as train number 12952 in the reverse direction. It reaches Mumbai Central at 8:35AM.

It covers a distance of 1385 kilometres in each direction however it takes 15 hours 50 mins when operating as train number 12951 at an average speed of 90.46 km/h (excluding halts) while its return journey as train number 12952 takes 16 hrs 05 mins at an average speed of 89.00 km/h (excluding halts) thus making it the fastest train on the Mumbai - Delhi sector.

Traction

It used to depart with WCAM 2P locomotive from Mumbai central in order to use Mumbai's DC traction wires up to Vile Parle.

Prior to complete AC Electrification of Western Railway's Suburban Line, it gets a WAP-5 or WAP-7. From 8 February 2012, Mumbai Rajdhani is hauled by WAP-5 or WAP-7 from end to end.

The Western railway completed DC Electric Conversion to AC on 5th February, 2012. The work was done on Vile Parle - Churchgate section.

Coaches

The Mumbai Rajdhani generally has a 1 AC 1st Class coach, 4 AC 2 tier class coaches, 2 pantry cars, 2 luggage cum generator coaches & up to 10 AC 3 tier coaches taking the total up to 19 coaches. Linke-Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches are nowadays used.
