Glycogen stored in muscles. Muscle glycogen does not contribute to the maintenance of blood glucose. It is used only in a muscle in which it is stored. Muscle glycogen is the main metabolic fuel during heavy and prolonged exercise. Fatigue is associated with its depletion, even when fats are still available as fuel. Typically, a person has about 1.5 g of glycogen for every 100 g of wet muscle. On its own, this provides enough fuel for about 80 min of activity.
