In 1943, Italian filmmakers began to develop a new movement in the art of moviemaking: Neorealism. In Museum of Modern Art: Neorealism, Up to 1945, the movement is traced from its origins up to 1945. Director Carlo Lizzani is the host for this series of three programs exploring the trend, and he discusses the films Roma Citta Aparta, Ossessione, Sciuscia, and Paisa, and the areas in which Italian cinema began to explore this experimental method. The road was not always smooth, but the final results proved worthy of the trip. ~ Alice Day, All Movie Guide
